Some make the mistake of thinking the wider the better which is not necessarily true. Its also good to use different widths at different times to bring up weaknesses. Then you can always go back to your favorite squat stance width when its time to break your PR. Start slightly wider than shoulder width and then go as wide as you feel comfortable and find where you are strongest.
