Posted at December 31, 1969, 6:00 pm: Hi everyone. Like FICuban I'm a newbie to the boards, but this seemed like a good place to start posting, since I know where all of you who are trying to lose fat are coming from, and it'll give me a chance to introduce myself and let you know about my own war with the lard. Personally, when I was younger I was always overweight, but things really went wrong when I broke my leg badly playing rugby and lost the ability to do any exercise whatsoever - I'd been about 250lb (aged 15 and about 6'1" at the time), but after the injury I went up to about 290, mostly due to chocolate and lasagne I think... Once my leg healed I started playing rugby again, but there's only so much you can do at that sort of weight. Anyway, I eventually decided enough was enough, cut out all the sweets, pushed myself with the rugby and got back down to about 250. Then my school totally overhauled the gym, so I hit it. By the time I left I was down to about 230 (at 6'3"), and I was benching 220lb, curling 130 and leg pressing 660. Didn't look too shabby either. Unfortunately, I'd picked up a knee injury playing rugby at school (hence all the leg pressing to strengthen it), and after my first year playing at university it was too bad to keep going, so the exercise went out of the window again - being a poor student I had no money for gym membership either. By the time I left law school I was back up to about 270lb (and 6'4"), mainly thanks to beer this time... Anyway, by last October I had made some changes in my diet and was slowly losing some weight (probably muscle...), but I knew I had to get myself back in a gym and get it sorted out properly - I'd done it before and loved it, so it wasn't too hard to motivate myself into going again and since I was working I had the money to finance it. Now I'm back down to about 260, but I've put on a fair bit of muscle, so I reckon I must have lost at least 14lb of fat. Gonna have a body stat soon anyway and find out what the score really is. Hopefully by the summer I'll have made some real progress - my bench is back up to 190lb, curls to 110 and leg press to 510, so it's on its way. In relation to my diet, I'm just trying to cut out carbs as much as possible. I have a bowl of bran flakes and milk and either a grilled chicken breast or a couple of boiled eggs for breakfast, tuna and pasta for lunch and a couple of chicken breasts with carrots and brocolli for dinner if I'm not at the gym, or else either just the chicken or tuna or eggs if I am going to the gym and don't have time to cook a whole meal. I want to get rid of the tuna pasta for lunch and replace it with more veggies and a protein supplement because the pasta I get for lunch is a bit oily and there are too many carbs involved anyway. It would also let me break up my lunch into protein first then veggies (with their minimal carbs) an hour or so later to (I think) maximise protein absorbtion and increase metabolism. Is my theory sound? Nice to be here anyway, people. Sorry for the essay! J Original of the message was taken from http://forum.bodybuilding.com/ Previous Post: Yeah ive read about the keto diet.
