Posted at December 31, 1969, 6:00 pm: Hi Alma, Yes "serious buyers" are a different breed. they are SERIOUS COLLECTORS and REASONABLE BUYERS. They have a quest and you have a great selection of glass for them to hunt through. But the average ebay buyer is looking to buy cheap, like that market crowd that will give you a $1.00 for a piece of carnival glass, like they are doing you a favor. Don't get me wrong I still sell stuff on ebay to turn dollars and go to the markets to move other stuff. And I do have collectors that visit my shops and see me at the markets, but the majority of the customers want items for nothing. I've had guys trying to buy sterling jewelry and flatware etc for scrap prices. The old "it's only got $2.00 worth of silver". Heck if I wanted to scrap it why would I bring it to the market. I was buying scrap gold and silver back in the late 70's early 80's before half of these guy knew what a scale was. I've been in this business in one form or the other for 35 years and times have changed, collectors are getting harder to find and customers are getting cheaper. Ok finished rambling now.
