Posted at December 31, 1969, 6:00 pm: Just about any Stephen King novel gets totally butchered when it's put onto the screen. Well, the horror novels, anyway. The broader stuff (Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption, Stand By Me, etc.) seems to translate well, but the horror stuff isn't nearly as scary as the books. I did enjoy the Gary Sinise rendition of The Stand, but that was mostly due to what I thought was good casting. Everyone was pretty much as I pictured them while reading. The book was still scarier.
