First you all have to separate your personal liking of the character and how the character is developed and managed. You don't like Sasuke? that's fine but this doesn't mean he isn't a great character. The reasons he seems to be hated are (in order of importance and how many times they are listed): 1) he is gay 2) he is jackass and went to Orochimaru 3) he is just too powerful 1) Do i even need to comment? 2) He is just selfish and focused only on revenge. That's why he is great. I mean: we are all sick of good and well-behaved characters. Shonen is already full of idealistic and good guys (see Naruto) and we don't need another one. Or someone who turns from the bad guys to the good guys.... or at first was fighting AGAINST the main character and later they just become friends... omg how many times do we need that crap (there is another shounen around for that...) What we need is something new... someone who turns evil from being good with his own reasons and his own objectives. This is Sasuke. He was magnificently developed from the start. We saw him grow and seek more power and making a strong relationship with Kakashi and his team... but in the end he choosed to pursue his desires and go to Orochimaru. Is he bad for this? Maybe.... but hell! It's a GREAT character, we need some interesting bastards from time to time in shonen. Konoha is trying to get him back? And Naruto is still trying to get him back to his team... That's fine. Konoha has many reasons to want him back and leave Orochimaru... but why should Sasuke go back? He clearly made a decision and like a man he is following his path. Naruto is following his path too. They both are just fighting for what they think it's right. And it's good because no one is absolutely right or wrong. I mean ... Sasuke is trying to get revenge for his family. 3) Now.... after almost 3 years Sasuke has proven to have improved much more than Naruto and Sakura.... i mean what's wrong with this. This is how it should be! Just think about WHY Sasuke went to Orochimaru. He went to get more power and kill his brother. It was stated he could have stayed in Konoha and trained like every other genin to improve.... but it wasn't serious enough training for him. Orochimaru offered him to leave a "happy family that's not making his talent shine" and go to him to access power: MORE power and FAST. If he was at almost the same level of Naruto after the skip the whole character development and plot would have been pointless. It's different from simply being super-strong=super-cool there is more depth. Instead of just hate him try to understand his character and his purpose. He is just doing great right now. And i want him to stay like this: selfish, evil and proud. Go back to other "happy happy shonen" if you don't like it.
