What your singer needs to do is sit down with the band and work out the melody he needs to sing on a PIANO. Then when you're recording, record a piano track for him to sing along to, then after he's done recording it, scrap the piano track. Even if you're using a keyboard, make sure it's a piano sound. It's the best to sing to, for some strange reason. I used to suffer the same problem as your singer, but after trying this for a little while I don't need a guide track anymore. Seriously, vocals are hard to do because you have to play a melody without the conviniance of having a fretboard to keep the notes at the right pitch. Your singer REALLY needs to understand this.
