Well, there's an equivalent of that in blues, but instead of playing 8th's on the hats, you play 8th note triplets (so, you hit 3 times per quarter instead of two): Basic rock: C 1&2&3&4& H xxxxxxxx S --x---x- B x---x--- Basic blues: C 1ea2ea3ea4ea H xxxxxxxxxxxx S ---x-----x-- B x-----x----- Typical basic blues: C 1ea2ea3ea4ea H xxxxxxxxxxxx S ---x-----x-- B x-x--xx-x--x Typical shuffle (for the faster blues work mostly) C 1ea2ea3ea4ea H x-xx-xx-xx-x S ---x-----x-- B x--x--x--x-- What you do with the bassdrum is pretty depended on how the bassplayer is playing it, just follow his accents with your bassdrum. Note that in the typical shuffle, you just leave out the second note of each triplet on the hats/ride ostinato. There are countless variations of this, but that should get you started. Just remember that the blues is based on 3's instead of 2's... Wich is something that screwes up a lot of players just starting with this during their fills. A basic boring roll down the toms will be 12 hits in blues, unlike 8 in rock, ya dig? EDIT: Ilikenoise, your example is based on 16th notes, wich won't give it the blues feel in 3's.
