If you want something that'll last you get a Peavey Valveking I think its exactly what you're looking for (350-400). Then a good guitar between 300-500 Godin would be a nice choice. I own one of there acoustics and it is ace. Then you'll still be under 1000 dollars and you'll have a set up you will still like a few years down the road.
