Posted at December 31, 1969, 6:00 pm: I have a story I’d like to share with you guys. It’s about a house I lived in when I was a little girl. This is not just a made up story. Our friends, and even people who came to work on the house witnessed some of the events that took place there. Anyway, the house was nothing fancy, and it didn’t look old and spooky or anything, and it was like the rest of the houses in the neighborhood. The strange thing was that when you would walk down the hall coming from the bedrooms and turn left into the kitchen, you could see a person sitting in a chair in the living room from the corner of your eye. There were even a couple of times when I, or my sister went into the kitchen and we thought it was one of our friends from the neighborhood who would often just come in and make themselves at home, and we would get them a soft drink and take it to them only to find there was no one there! We didn’t think much of it at first until our friends started seeing it when they would spend the night and they got up to go to the bathroom. They would come back and say, “I think someone is still up in the living room,” when in fact everyone was in bed. There were a lot of little things that happened like, if the candles that were on the shelf near that chair were lit, the one that was closest to the chair would flicker as if someone were blowing on it, while the flames on the other candles would burn undisturbed. I could go on about little things like that, but this story would be a few pages long. Anyway, seeing someone in the living room and other strange little things went on for years and we thought, wow, we have a friendly ghost living here, woo hoo, and we weren’t really afraid of it. Then, the day after my ninth birthday, the freakiest things happened. I’ll never forget it as long as I live! That night, my mom and sister were sitting up watching television at about 11:00pm. According to my mom and sister, the lights went extremely dim, and even the television barely had a picture on the screen. It wasn’t storming or anything, and it wasn’t really that cold out to be November 30th. Anyway, We had a Persian cat that had had kittens in the laundry room, which was just to the right of the kitchen. Mom said the cat was lying on the couch when the lights went dim, and it suddenly jumped up and went towards the laundry room, but as soon as it went through the doorway into the kitchen, it stopped dead in its tracks and looked to the left and puffed up and started growling and hissing. My mom and sister said there were odd shadows moving across the wall in the kitchen, and I remember my mom yelling, “Trisha, is that you, what are you doing in there?” I had gone to bed that night at 10:30 and I was almost asleep when I heard her, and I got up to see what she wanted. When I got to the foyer at the end of the hall where the living room and kitchen doorways were, there was like a pool of really cold air swirling around my feet and legs, and then it rose up my nightgown (Which was actually one of my sisters t-shirts). I wasn’t wearing anything underneath, and the way the air swirled around me; it felt like icy cold hands touching me all over as it moved up my body and over my head. My mom and sister sat there staring at me with weird looks on their faces, and I finally managed to move from whatever it was that was touching me, and ran to my mom. The cat suddenly ran out from the laundry room carrying one of the kittens in its mouth, and was growling. I screamed because I didn’t know what it was at first, and just as the cat went into the bathroom, the wind chimes that were hanging in the foyer started moving as if someone had swatted them. My mom asked me what I was doing in the kitchen, and I started crying and told her I wasn’t in there, I was in bed. My sister looked at my mom and said, “Mom, she wasn’t in the kitchen, I saw her come out of her room.” Mom got up and started towards the kitchen, and the lights slowly went bright again. We were all freaked out over it, and my sister and I slept with my mom that night. My dad was out of town that week on a construction job, and when my mom called him and told him about it, he laughed and said we were just paranoid. The next night was uneventful, and we didn’t notice the figure sitting in the living room from then on, best I can remember? My mom and dad bought the house in 1973, and it wasn’t until just a few years ago they found out that originally, a couple named Thomas and Janet Schreiber (or something like that) built the house in 1964. According to an old man that lived up the street, Thomas did almost all of the building himself with only a little help from his brothers and his wife. His wife had some kind of handicap, and she had gotten sick and died in a hospital a short time after it was completed. According to the old man, Thomas was deeply grieved and became very depressed. He said that he hardly ever left the house after her death, and then, he died two years later, and was found sitting in the living room with her picture in his hand. He supposedly died of natural causes? That information on the houses history really sent chills over me when mom told me. Anyway, my mom and dad divorced two years ago, and they moved and sold the house. I’ve often wanted to go and visit the old place and ask the new owners if they’d seen strange thing’s going on in the there, but they would probably think I was crazy or something?
