Posted at December 31, 1969, 6:00 pm: It will not be impossible to work around what ever the rules turn out to be. In fact it most likely will be easy. However there are a host of other issues that may make you decide it isn't worth the trouble. I recomend a visit to the 2 + 2 legislative forum and a search of this forum for lengthy discussions. The key driver in the new law, in my opinion, is the criminal risk assumed by the poker room, its employees and its owners if the poker room accepts US citizens as customers. Any time such people get on a plane or a boat they run the risk of ending up in US custody if their travel plans take them anywhere close to the USA. This isn't a trivial risk - it is one many people will be very serious about avoiding. Personally, I think I will be able to play from the USA legitiamately without any difficulty for the next year or so. I might find the bonuses tougher to get - or maybe more plentiful. A poker site that decides to cater to US customers and take the legal risk will want to gobble up as much of the US market as they can. If Party and Starts both bail on the US market, there are huge opportunities for a company willing to take the chance. Since it might become impossible to advertise in the USA, a program of rich bonuses and/or rake back could be in our future. Or then again, maybe not.
