I agree completely. eBay (or any other venue for that matter) should not be your sole source of sales. My loyal customers, as above, are discovered on eBay, made loyal through my good prices and customer service, then moved over to my website. I offer discounts in packages to customers to encourage them to purchase future items from my website. Once I've built their trust and give them some incentive, they are more than willing to move their business off-eBay.

I doubt that I'll ever leave eBay entirely. Not only does it provide me with a great base of customers from which to cultivate these 'loyal customers', it also provides adequate profit to make it a more than worthwhile use of time.

I agree with the thought, but I don't think eBay is doing the brainwashing. Too many sellers want to stick with what works and don't take chances to expand and diversify their businesses. eBay sellers need to have more than one venue in which to sell their products, be it through their own website or another auction or store site. Any business that is built with only one stream of income is too much at risk to changing fees or regulations. Is it eBay's job to educate sellers away from the 'one basket' mentality? I think not.

I think the problem with the eBay business boom is that it has been too easy to start a profitable business with no knowledge of how to operate and maintain one. As for the statement that they blame the seller for their business failure, I tend to agree. If a fee increase or feature glitch from one vendor causes a business to fail, it is the fault of that business for not having the room to adapt and not diversifying their income streams.
