Posted at December 31, 1969, 6:00 pm: I feel like I don't need to erase over lines as much anymore when i'm drawing from life. Life drawing is getting faster as well. For examples, these hands were no more than 3 min. each for drawing anf maybe 5 min max for the paints on top. This was a piece done for school in which we had to take something out of nature (a raven in my case), and do five variations of it. A. Full color B. Technical C. Abstract D. Shape E. Line Personally I went with a Raven because it is a bird with an attitude. Depicted throughout society as being dark, I wanted to show that these are birds which have souls too. That's where the red comes in. To show they are living. The connecting branches show how they are a well thought out and smart society. I got this idea after reading that they are one of the smartest birds on the planet. I also got some inpiration from something I had looked at in nature where these red petals (flowers w/e) had a lot of contrast compared to that of the tree. The background was actually a shot of the sky I took and changed the colour variations on. Then I decided to add some of the blues on the left to the right as well so the eye bounces back and forth.
