Posted at June 9, 2005, 3:59 pm: If you are talking to me, I am only trying to save everyone from going thru what I have gone thru on Yahoo! Auctions and other marginal auction sites. All those other sites you mentioned are also a waste of time in my opinion, and I have tried most of them. From what I can tell, none of them have viable long-term business models or opportunities for sellers trying to make an actual profit. Overall, I do like Yahoo!, just not the auctions department. Every contact I ever had with the auctions department and its affiliate banks has been horrible. You may recall I once reported here that they were giving some sellers special deals for auction listings. The account rep. emailed me a form an invited me to contact her if I had questions. Even though she provided a phone number, she would never answer her phone or return my phone calls. When I reported fraud on the site, it was rarely addressed except when it involved many thousands of dollars. When I reported serious bugs in the search function, they were acknowledged but never fixed. Their discussion boards are full comments about site bugs and problems too numerous to mention here. Most of those bugs have never been fixed. One example, I just received an email from Yahoo! notifying me I won an auction. Only problem is the auction closed last August!!!!! Did you know that Yahoo! Auctions accepts ad from other auction sites? Nothing like having someone view your auction and being invited to another auction site to buy the same item. What a joke. My experience with Yahoo! Paydirect was equally as bad. Thank goodness it is gone. In my opinion the vast, vast majority of sellers on a fee-free site will never make money. I have seen it happen on dozens of sites over the past 10 years and it will no doubt continue.
