Today I did my first workout with rippetoe's starting strength program. I did my 3 sets of 5 squats, 3 sets of 5 benches, 1 set of 5 deadlifts and 2 sets of 8 dips. I did everything with as much weight as I could lift 5 times, and when I was done with my workout, I didnt feel any strain on my entire upper body (except my lower back thanks to shitty deadlift form). When I was working with my 3 day split, I felt much more strain on my upper body. I'm assuming rippetoe's program is better for building mass for my 150 pound self than a mainly isolation driven 3 day split.

What's going on?

Also, while Rippetoe's program calls for standing military presses, is it that bad if I do them seated?

This is correct, starting at your 5 rep max isn't going to get you any...

My bench for rippetoes had varied from 195-205 for 5 reps for the past...
