hi all,

I think I am FINALLY going to succeed in getting my dad to come to the gym. I do have a few questions though...

my dad used to be an athlete and he's naturally muscular, so he's got some solid muscle and he's not too out of shape, but he definitely has the middle-aged belly. also, because of his sports background, he has an old knee injury which I am afraid of aggravating. I want to start him out on cable weights first because I haven't graduated to freeweights yet and second because I think he has less of a chance of injuring himself as a beginner on cable weights, so please bear in mind anything I take him through at the gym will be cable.

1. what should I avoid having him do, to keep his knee from being injured?
2. should I start him on full-body or split routine?
3. I want to start him on fish oil caps. is there anything else he should take at this point?

my dad is 47 and really resistant to actually getting into the gym. I think he feels intimidated, but he's never set foot inside to see what it's like. he's always going on and on about how he wants to go and he needs to go, but he never does. I'm hoping he'll finally get over it and go with me.
