Posted at May 3, 2004, 9:30 pm: Good Evening, I am a vinyl collector/ dealer and have sold LP's, 12"s and 45's in categories like : garage, religious, oddball, spoken word, rap, disco, soul, latin, exotica, psyche etc. to good results over the past 3 years on E-bay. I firmly believe that some of the changes that Ebay has implemented in the last year have been great: adding 55 characters to item title, reverting to a default search of stores if less than 10 matches come up in an auction search (smart) and the new "My E-bay" beta page seems to have some excellent utility going for it. Having said that, I have not seen any feedback regarding the changes that E-bay has made in the "Music" category. Of course, now that Ebay has done away with individual collectable categories of records in favor of item specifics and broad classifications: ( Music- CD's, Music -Records...) it would seem to be much more difficult for the specialized collector/buyer to hone in on their wants or just to browse their favorite category. Well, how about it? Can we hear from some of the record sellers who have listed vinyl on Ebay recently? How do your results with the new Item Specifics model compare with the pre roll-up model. What effect has it had on sales and bidding of collectable records. Hits? Bids? Tell us and be specific. One can hope that if E-bay hears enough credible testimony from sellers and bidders that they will restore some of the utility of the old features. If Ebay wanted to make everyone happy they would put a choice on the Sell Your Item form when you go to list a record, video or CD: Would you like to list this with our new Pre-filled information and item specifics OR would you like to use the old way and select a category and make your own listing. I had been thinking about listing my more unusual "media" items (Videos, CD's and books) from my Half.com inventory on Ebay now that E-bay is in its final stage of scuttling Half.com, but now with these changes, I am going to wait and see how things play out. Sellers of out of print media (yes, the famous OOP) and antiquarian books need searchable categories that can be scanned, bookmarked, etc. by our buyers. I wish the best to Ebay in making the best decision during this transition and to all seller's. I hope that as a group we can successfully persuade Ebay to restore the utility of category listings and searching or else refuse to list so that it can be felt in their numbers (The only thing they seem to focus on.) As for me, I will sell in other categories that have not been affected by the roll-ups , until I can sell music and media collectables in a way that people can find and bid on them. God knows we have worked hard enough and sacrificed enough to be "successful E-bay seller's" Thanks for your post.
