I found a copy of O.V. WRIGHT's LP "8 Men and 4 Women" on the Backbeat label at the Goodwill Store. Finding this LP reminded me that carrying around a record price guide in my car is a good idea. At first I was not going to buy it, but when I went out to my car and saw in the price guide it was worth $40, I went back in and got it. Who is O.V. Wright you may ask. Well I did not know either, but after listening to him, I like him. The cover is kind of strange . It looks almost like one of those locally produced gospel albums you see at all the thrift/junk stores. And O.V. does not look like what I would think a singer should look like. In other words, he looks more like a Southern Baptist minister. but boy can he sing! And Soulful! I really do not know how to describe his singing style. He sho ain't funky like James Brown and he doesn't have that smoothness of Sam Cooke. Let's just say he is different. Kind of like Otis Redding but not as gravelly. Anyway, a sealed copy is up to $100 on E-bay right now, so I guess I am not the only one who likes him. See if you can find a copy of his song "8 Men and 4 Women" on Kazaa and see what you think.
