Hey All, I've been weight & health training for a few years now, but only recently have I started really getting into the diet and science side of it. I'm currently on a low-carb diet (as recommended by a trainer friend of mine), but it's a sensible one that allows some complex carbs - some whole grain bread and plenty of green veggies, beans, etc. And of course it involves high protein intake as well. My question here is regarding what I can eat before I lift, as well as...

a) immediately afterwards - i.e. ideal shake ingredients for maximizing muscle growth, and
b) shortly thereafter - which for me is usually my dinner. I go to the gym right after work.

I've read here about adding sugar (dextrose etc) to the post workout shake, but that seems like it would be taboo with a low-carb diet. However, quite simply my main goal is for my muscles to get as big as possible, so I'm willing to do whatever possible short of taking supplements other than protein.
