Posted at November 12, 2005, 6:33 pm: I had posted this FYI on the SquareWave site, but thought it would be better to post here for the benefit of all Version 3 Voyager owners: In Version 3, double-pressing the EDIT button reveals an 'OCTAVE TRANSPOSE' screen that allows you to quickly transpose octaves using the up and down keys. What you may not realize is that when you transpose using this feature, that transposition is also reflected in the MASTER menu transpose function. For example, if you use the EDIT button to transpose up an octave, the MASTER menu shows a keyboard transposition of +12. Use the EDIT button to transpose up two octaves and the MASTER menu shows +24. Conversely, if you use the MASTER menu to transpose octaves, this transposition is reflected in the EDIT 'OCTAVE TRANSPOSE' screen. Transposing down, it works the same way, but although the EDIT 'OCTAVE TRANSPOSE' stops at -2 octaves, the MASTER menu transpose allows you to continue down 2 more octaves, all the way down to -48 semi-tones (-4 octaves). (The EDIT 'OCTAVE TRANSPOSE' display doesn't change as you go below -24 semi-tones) Even when the MASTER menu transpose is set below what the EDIT button can select, the EDIT button can be used to quickly return to the desire octave. For example, if the MASTER menu transpose is set to -48 (4 octaves down), selecting NULL in the EDIT 'OCTAVE TRASNPOSE' screen returns you to zero transpostion (none). Lastly, if you transpose something less than an octave, say up a fifth (+7 semi-tones) using the Master menu, and then use the EDIT 'OCTAVE TRANSPOSE' to go down an octave, the MASTER menu transpose shows a value of -5 semi-tones. This initially seems wrong, but it is actually correct and consistant with the way the MASTER menu displays transposition: +7 semi-tones - 12 semi-tones (octave) = -5 semi-tones Considered another way, a transposition of +7 semi-tones is going up a fifth. This is like moving from 'C' up to a 'G'. Transposing this down an octave, that 'G' is now 5 semi-tones down from the 'C'. Again, consistant with the way the MASTER menu transposition display works.
