Hi,

Hope nobody minds me posting a topic as I am not (yet) an owner of the PianoBar. But I think this might be an interesting topic if we share some ideas and opinions.

I use the Rhodes consistently and often find myself in musical situations where layering the instrument with an additional synth would be necessary.

I first considered the MIDI-retrofit from MIDI9 (ex-Gulbransen). The problem with that device is that it has to be mounted underneath the keyboard action. But since I use two MarkIs (one in the studio and one on the road) I'd have to retrofit both of them. Too much work (and money).

Here's my idea I'd like to share:
The PianoBar is built for 88 keys. Well: on each side of the cheekblocks of the Rhodes, you have a little part of the casing running along. If one would cut away that little part of casing with a saw, you should be able to place the PianoBar over the keys.
Now: In order to ignore strange information that comes from remaining "non-existent keys", you'd simply have to limit the keyboard range on the synth module (possible on most modern modules in multimode) and finally add some transposition to make the pitches match.

What do you think? Could this work?

(Or is there a way to saw off some of the PianoBar ?)

...Or -last but not least- will there be a 73 key-edition of the PianoBar someday? There'd sure be a market for it!

discuss.

regards,
tim
