Hello,

I'm working for a lab at Rockefeller University. We're designing an experiment that requires that we obtain data on the timing and intensity of notes in a piano performance. We feel the PianoBar might be useful for our purposes in that it allows us to use an acoustic piano and nevertheless obtain quantifiable data on note loudness and timing in a performance.

However, we would like very much to bypass the conversion to MIDI and directly access the signals that the scanner bar is sending the control box. Therefore, we have several questions.

Over what kind of cable does the connection between the scanner bar and the control box occur? My suspicion is that it is is USB, but I'm unsure.

If it is a USB connection, would it be possible to plug the scanner bar into he USB port of a computer and write or use a program to detect incoming packets? What we're really wondering is, would it just fry the computer port, or does the scanner bar actually output data in accordance with the USB specification?
