Posted at January 13, 2005, 5:40 pm: A member on Ebay is threatening another on a Q&A board. This type of activity should really be frowned on and corrective steps should be made by the company before a user gets seriously hurt. Here's the message from Jeff5. Reply with quote It seems there is a rumor that there may be someone, somewhere I haven't pissed off lately. I find the very thought intolerable. Someday, somewhere in the Universe, somebody may discover something with only one side. This ain't it. The "Community" of the Q&A Board, Regulars, Sometimers and Lurkers, is a diverse bunch ethnically, educationally, geographically. In no regard are we more diverse than economically. Some are doing quite well, some doing okay, some getting by and some spend several days every month worrying about keeping the lights on. When one of these Board find-raisers comes up, regardless of the worthy cause involved, folks everywhere on the economic spectrum want to feel like they've "done their part". Those who are doing well can send off $50 or $100 or more and barely notice it, if at all. Others may literally have to cut corners on the grocery bill to chip in $20, but they will do so and make things work out. It goes with being part of a "group'. Everybody on the Board saw the trevails of the horse injuries, and saw it assume emergency proportions when some needed procedure might not be performed due to the mounting bill. The Board swung into action, and fundraising specifically for the vet bill began. Folks contributed as their situation and inclinations led them, and a donation was forwarded, again referencing the vet bills. Crisis averted, animal saved, general back-patting all 'round. Now, just for a moment, put yourself in the shoes of a Boarder who had to cut the corners a bit to "do their part", after all the kids like the generic hot dogs almost as well as the name brands, and the Super-Value macaroni is almost as good as the Kraft. Then you see: Quote: Posted by palabay Nov 29-04 at 07:11:55 I have got to put my brain in gear big time today. The older couple I've been delivering manure to for the past year and a half have offered me their vacant five acres. I can swing a vacant land loan... Wait a minute, you might think, weren't we just digging deep to help out a Boarder with money trouble?? Now they're buying land?? Quote: Posted by palabay Nov-29-04 at 16:50:43 PST dt; LOL! My saddle's excellent quality, but it ain't no Herme's! No way is my behind riding in a cheapo saddle! Then, in an auction that closed almost a month later there is a blurb about selling off "Some of my fine tack" to pay, VET BILLS!! (The "Fine Tack" in question appears to have been quite recently acquired, but I digress) Is it really all that surprising that folks started wondering if they had been "played"?? Nonnie and Sprite are friends of mine, of several year's standing. I have seen both "do their part" every time they knew of a Boarder in a bind. I was surprised and disappointed in them when this came up on the Board, not so much because of what was said as the "sucker punch" feel of the thing. It was poorly done. I think I was seven the first time I was surprised and disappointed by a friend; I strongly suspect it will happen soon when I get home and can actually read all of this thread. I don't believe this was a planned, coordinated attack, the topic had become hypocracy when Palabay had something to say about a fake Feedback auction, which she of course forfeited all credibility on some time ago. Everybody who participated in the Fake Feedback Fiasco, or cheered from the sidelines (that would be you, Edfan) should belly up and have a heapin', steamin' bowl of this. Never mind the taste, I'm sure it will make the menu again. Nonnie and Sprite weren't the only folks who had questions, just the ones who said something on the Board. Apparently it was a topic of conversation elsewhere for a while, and finally bubbled up on the Board. Is there any justification for resentment?? The fund-raising effort was clearly "packaged" as for emergency veterinary care, the funds were sent with a reference to the vet bills, seems pretty clear cut. Sometimes thes crapfests turn up the most interesting info: Quote: OR I could have grabbed the two most recent crises- vet bill, saddle hock- and used those as the impetus for the collection- give people a concept to grab on to." Or you could have told the folks you were asking for money the truth. So, why do some folks feel like they were scammed?? Seems like they were the ones paying attention. This was represented as being about emergency vet care when it was actually more like "lifestyle maintenance", but that wouldn't have been good "marketing". If the Board had a formal structure for it I would prefer charges against Karenkat and Palabay for running the most odious scam ever perpetrated on the Q&A Board, and would ask for permanent banishment. I would also prefer charges against Nonnie and Sprite for an egregious breach of Board Decorum for how they brought it up, and ask for a 30-day Suspension, but they do have one thing in mitigation. They were right. One final thoght, and ya'll can have at me. Take your time, I won't be home until the end of the week. Palabay, you snotty *quack*, every time I have looked at the Board the last few days you have been there whining and playing the victim. Enough. The victims in this whole thing are the sense of community on the Q&A Board and several friendships fostered there, both going back years before you showed up. Just shut the *quack* up and enjoy your thirty pieces of silver. If I see you raise or address this issue on the Board, directly, indirectly or obliquely, I will go absolutely *quack* nuclear on you, and will make what Nonnie and Sprite said seem like a mother's carresses by comparison. You are, of course, free to Post anything you like within the Board Posting Policies, but then, so am I. Shall we dance??
