One thing I know is that Google has some pretty smart people working there.

A Reuters article just came out - "eBay to test advertising auctions on other sites"

The article says, "EBay sees the AdContext system as complementary to, rather than competing with, the online advertising networks offered by Google and others." Very diplomatic Meg, but I don't think you fooled Google, or Yahoo. Will Rogers said "Diplomacy is the art of saying 'Nice doggie' until you can find a rock."

Hey Meg...Will you promise Google and Yahoo not to compete with them and just stick to selling ads for your things like golf memoribilia, brand name shoes, baseball gloves, Betty Boop figurines and things like that? Will you promise never to sell a an ad to say a Chicago Personal Injury Lawyer promoting his business? Or a Real Estate Ad to a Real Estate Broker? Or a Travel ad to a hotel group?

What would prevent you from actually competeing head to head with Google or Yahoo? If you can deliver contextual ads and you have one of the most visited sites on the web, what would prevent you from using your ability to draw and just start selling any ad and let businesses (even those not selling on eBay bid those up). Why would you limit ads to just items sold on eBay? Something tells me eBay has just picked up a rock and is saying "Nice Google Doggie, nice Google Doggie".
