Posted at December 13, 1901, 2:45 pm: to make the sticky building in this forum a bit smaller, i've taken the 'so you wanna battle' and 'murals, an introduction' threads and put it into 1 thread so here is an introduction to battles and murals. if you have any questions after reading this, or you have anything to add then please reply battle - what is a battle ? a battle is a game between 2 or more designers. where 1 person starts with an image gives his or her image to the other and he or she plays around with the image and passes it back and so on, and you can do this with 2 people or more, depending on what you want example battle - why battle other then being fun it also teaches you allot! you can see how people build their images, if you trade psd's for example. see how they use your image, what they change and so on example battle now you know what it is and why its good to battle you have to get 1 started - how to start a battle ? this is the easy part, just go to the challenges forum and make a new thread and say you want to start a battle, and wait untill you get a reaction. or you can send some one a PM asking if they wanna battle now people will ask you how you wanna battle, here are the most common rules - the program this just doesnt really matter, any graphic programme can be used in a battle. from photoshop to flash from 3Dstudio max to illustrator - what size do you need once again this is all up to you, some people do wallpaper battles, some go really small and some dont set a size and change size every round. - how many rounds? most common, from what ive seen, is 10 rounds, meaning 5 images each. but some people have more rounds, some have less rounds this is all up to you, some people dont even set rounds, and see what happens - Xchange? depending on the programe you use you can deceide how you wanna trade/exchange your images so if you are gonna use photoshop you could exchange .psd's or if you are gonna use illustrator you can exchange .ai or .eps. or you can do it by just trading .jpg's or .gif i like to trade .psd's from time to time to see hwo people make their images, and you can more easily take parts from their image - leave something from last image this rule is used almost everytime, meaning you have to leave something from the last round visible. - wanna battle with a theme ? theme's are fun to battle with, meaning you give the other person a theme to make an image with or a theme for the whole battle. example theme could be music. - you serve deceiding who is gonna start with a battle, so if you challenge someone you can say you are gonna start or ask if the other person wants to start. its up to yo - other rule it's all up to you, some stuff i've seen or have done are, no dark art, no me vs you in the image, or pixel battles and so on. now that you know what it is, why to do it, how to start, set all the rules there is just 1 thing left to do - make the thread just go to the 'battle grid' forum make a new thread, usually people put their names in the thread name, or make up a name they named the battle and set the rules and the first image in the first post, this gives the vieuwers a nice over view of the battle - its over, who won mostly their isnt a winner at all! but if you want you can always ask someone to judge the battle and give points, but its mostly just about fun! well have fun on the grid. written with the help from this threa mural there still seem to be questions about murals, how to go about it well here is an introduction to the wonderfull world of murals players - it doesnt really matter how much but it has got to be atleast 2 rules/size - once again this doesnt really matter, you can make up theme's, rules for the next player, whatever. same with the size of the images. and how many times each player goes - 1 thing that is standard is the overlapping part, if the rules say 100 pixels overlap everybody has to use 100 pixels. this size however can change of every mural, depend on how big you want it like s tips to get the overlap righ now what i do is open (in photoshop) the last round of the mural, then make a new document with the size of the overlap, lets say 100px overlap the image size should be 100px wide and the same height as of the mural. or the other way around ofcourse then select the new image, drag the selection in the last round image and then you have the size you need now make a new image, and just drag the selection in the new image, and the overlap cant go wrong direction - up to you! murals can go from left to right, right to left, top to bottom, bottom to top there are even mural that go from left to right, 1 down, the from right to left hosting? - yes hosting, if you are gonna host it please do not make it 1 big image, it takes way to long to load. - the way i host them, if you know a better way say so but i do it like to, put in the first image, then take, lets say 100 pixel from the second image and paste it in the first image like s original imag mural imag and ofcourse cut of 100 pixels from the second image, and so on. put it in a table and your done color - colors difference can happen ofcourse, the sure way to not let this happen is save it as a .pn but in my experience if 1 person saves all the images, blends them in and saves them there isn't a problem but if you wanna play it save say how you want people to save the .jpg .gif or whatever, or save it as a png another reason for colour change is because people discard the embedded profile when they're opening the image they have to work on examples/ways to blend in - the most tricky part of a mural is blending the last image into your image the easiest way is the use the gradient tool, but there are other ways. just look at the examples rusty rake mural the arts mural collaboration cojones cone & boozer there are lots of murals out there these are just some examples but i hope this helps and i think i covered everything there is to know about a mural if not post i names important is to give it a cool name!
