Posted at February 15, 2006, 11:41 pm: Sorry to create another thread, but I didn't want it to get lost for people who might enjoy reading this (I spent a lot of time on it). I'm not the greatest storyteller, but I'll go ahead and give this a shot. Some of the days seemed to run together, so I'll do my best to recount the stories. If you want to hear a bunch about bad beats or lucky draws this probably isn't the trip report for you(as they they tend to be interesting to only the person telling them, but I guess this could be the case of the trip report as well ). This is a trip report about the other things that happened at Whorecon IV. Please don't read if you tend to get bored by these sort of things, as I don't want to feel bad about wasting your time (if you think you may feel that way but still want to give it a chance, maybe open up a table or two of Party Poker). BTW, pictures and videos are here: http://solring.pointclark.net/gallery/albums.php Chris is going to develop a BW page, but that is probably a couple days away. Thanks again to solring for the space. Note that I originally asked the board for places to host for free (i.e. Yahoo, i.e. Google) but a few of our kind users volunteered their space (solring, freakin). I did not think that as a site that we were going to host them, since we had never done so before (miscommunication between Chris and I), but we will put them on BW shortly, which will probably have faster download speeds. This was my second time in Vegas. The first time being last September for a casino affiliate convention. Jek, Mrs. Jek, Chris, me and my wife attended. We spent some time with Jim Morrison and PokerAddict on the trip. It was a lot of fun, but because it was required that I attend the convention, I had to wake up early every day except one. Jim Morrison always gives me a hard time because I'm the "only one in Vegas who goes to bed before 10 o'clock while in the biggest party city in America (which was a slight exaggeration, btw" I think I might have proved the naysayers wrong on this trip. After touching down at Las Vegas, we hopped on a limo thinking that it would cost just as much to have 2 cabs take us to the Bellagio. We were quite wrong---the fare ended up being $95. I guess we misjudged that one. Anyway, Jek being the nice guy that he is, took care of it. After checking in our rooms at the beautiful Bellagio hotel (Chris and I roomed together, Rick and Lee took the other room), 4/5 of the BW crew went out to lunch while Jek took care of some business. Thinking that we might have problems hitting our required 12 hours of poker for the poker rate, we all hit the tables right away. Chris, Rick and I played 4/8, which is our comfort zone. Rick had never played live poker at a casino so he definitely was smart to play at these low limit tables. Lee donked it at 8/16 for 12 hours+ straight, fulfilling his poker rate requirement on the first day. I think we played around 4 hours and actually had CHE and Jim Morrison join us for the session. I admire Jim for doing this because 4/8 is a very low limit for him, yet he still sat down with us for awhile (thanks for the $100 too, Jim ). To me, Whorecon's aren't about impressing anyone or necessarily playing your best game, but hanging out with people that you only see posts from 360 or so days out of the year. After a bit of playing and a lot of drinking (especially from Rick), we headed to Dan Marino's at the Hooters casino. I had a great stake dinner there. After dinner, I went to the bathroom, came out and everybody had left. Thinking that everyone had left me to make it back to the Bellagio myself, I went out to the front of the casino and saw everyone standing outside. JM, always looking for an opportunity to watch me slip up, immediately asked why I had my button buttoned on my shirt pocket. I thought I said something along the lines of "Because if I bend over, I don’t want my new camera to fall out" but apparently I said (and this was been confirmed by the rest of the BW crew) that I had it buttoned because I "like to bend over a lot." This is where the quote came from that you see on a few random whores's signature. On the cab ride back to the Bellagio, we saw a pretty intense holdup. As we passed, somebody from our cab yelled "Shoot him." I don't see that very often in Rapid City, SD. It was during this cab ride that PokerAddict mentioned something about 1 hour blow jobs. I didn't say it at the time, but I wondered what is wrong with PA (or his blowjob) that it takes an hour to get the job done. Jk, PA. I think we may have played some more poker after the meal, but I can't remember. I didn't take any additional pictures, so I don't know. I think this was the night I met Ace, Z and Val for the first time at a snack bar. All three were really nice guys, but I was bit disappointed to not get a hug from Z like JM promised. Hell, I don't even think I saw the nub the entire trip. Does Z like me? All in all, Wednesday was quite calm but it was only half a day and only 1/3 of the whores were in town. On Thursday, Chris and I grabbed some breakfast/lunch around noon and then headed to the Bellagio to get some more play in. I believe it was in the afternoon where I met Sir Arthur, Heelho, PokerMike and Dan for the first time on the trip. Sir Arthur doesn't like poker, so I didn't see much of him during the trip, but being half British myself, we got in some good cricket and English football talk. First thing Sir Arthur said upon meeting me--- "I thought you'd be taller" (I'm 5'8 ). Classic. Aussie PokerMike had a bizarre habit while in Vegas---party and then disappear. He partied really hard with JM and gang on Tuesday and we didn't see him again until Thursday. Apparently, he did the same thing on Friday night with Rick and Jim and then he was not seen the rest of the trip. PokerMike, are you ok? As stated, we saw Dan for the first time. The initial meeting with JM did not go well, although I don't believe he punched Dan. As a matter of fact, Dan didn't get punched the entire whorecon, even though there was a $500 bounty on his head and Jim continued to say that the altercation was going to happen. I do feel a little bad for Dan, but sometimes it is hard to feel sorry for him when he brings on so much of it himself. I hope that him and Jim and any others can put their differences behind and move on. Perhaps Dan can do his part by being less annoying. A note on Heelho--his posts now make a lot more sense after meeting him. For dinner, we went to the Bellagio buffet. Jim had some VIP passes of some sort so we moved to the beginning of the line very quickly (thanks a bunch, Jim!). The line was extremely long--people had to have been waiting for more than an hour (easy) to eat. It was the biggest buffet I had ever seen. I think I could probably eat there for every meal for a week and still not try everything that they had to offer. We get a call from MikeyObviously during the meal, and he wanted to join us for dinner. He skips the 1/2 mile-long line, grabs a plate and starts eating with us. In the middle of the meal, the host and hostess notice that he wasn't sitting with us when we initially sat down. They look at the ticket to confirm that he didn't pay. Mikeyobviously plays along saying that he went through the line like everyone else did. The wait staff continues to press, as they are sure that he didn't pay. Jim Morrison then tells the staff to review the security tapes. He is so convincing that they finally give up and Mikey Obviously walks away with a free $30 buffet dinner. I can see why JM is such a good poker player with that bluff he pulled. After the dinner, we decided to go to a Ceasers Place bar for some drinks. BW crew, Pokeraddict, Jim and Mikey were all there. It was here that Rick declined his first prop bet--to grind with two gay guys on the dance floor. Apparently even Rick wasn't drunk enough to take the bet. After a half hour or so of socializing, we decide to move to the sportsbook, where we could actually hear each other speak. At the sportsbook, we sat down, and Jim started asking the obligatory personal questions (surprised it took as long as it did) and the BW crew took some Tequila shots to loosen up. At that point, we noticed a passed out middle-aged man in front of his television. Rick eventually accepted a bet to take off the man's hat. Rick walked over and made it look easy. He wore his hat for a few seconds, stared at him and then walked back to the group. We then asked Rick to go a step further by taking his glasses off. It didn't take much for Rick to agree to do this. He then proceeds to walk over, sit next to him and then take off his glasses and put them on. At this point, there was still no reaction from the passed out man. After Rick is done posing, he walks over to us victoriously. "Rick, sit on his lap," somebody dares. After little assessment, Rick walks over and attempts to sit on his lap. The passed out man wakes up immediately and Rick asks him if he wants a hug, to which the man declines. Needless to say, Rick walks back to collect another $75 or so. I believe he made around $300 in about 10 minutes from those three bets. The fact is, he probably would have done it for 1/10th the amount, so we are probably the suckers in this bet. As we would come to find out, Rick will almost do anything for money. After chatting some more, we head to another Ceasar's bar. It is here that Rick is offered the prop bet to sit on Chris lap for 10 minutes. He attempts to do so, but Chris, unsurprisingly, isn't a willing participant. Being in the prop bet mood, Rick also seriously considers walking to the front of the bar to get a drink with his pants down and also untying the waitress's skirt. The waitress is very nice and actually gives advice on walking to the front of the bar with his pants down (leave within 5 minutes before Security makes their way to the bar). For whatever reason, neither prop bet materializes. We head back to the Bellagio around 2 or 3 and end up at a bar playing video poker. Jim, Jek and Kelly play, while the rest of us chat with each other. Eventually Rick and some others end up talking to a hooker, whose life apparently isn't going too well. Rick, being the religious man that he is (I shit you not), decides it's a good time to have a prayer. I don't recall who is all involved, but I know there was a circle of whores (the poker and slutty kind) holding hands and praying to the almighty. A few of us could only stare in disbelief. Apparently, the lady of the night was somewhat taken back as the swelling of tears could be noticed. At this point, I think I had enough and went to bed around 3 or so. The next day, Hof calls me and Chris and we met him for a breakfast at the Bellagio around 11:30. Afterwards, we then again head over to the Bellagio for more poker (at this point we only need a couple more hours for our quota). Hof, not wanting to subject himself to 4/8, goes and plays some 2/5NL, while Chris and I play more 4/8. Lee and Rick also join us. At this point, Rick has been drunk since Wednesday and starts again early Friday afternoon. During the session before dinner, JP, the happy whore from Alabama--Andrew, and even Dan join us during our session. At certain times, there are 7 of us playing at the same time. Andrew claims it is the most fun he has ever had at a live table (probably until the next day anyway), and I am not too far from agreeing with him. I honestly can't remember a single hand I played; it was just fun to engage in great conversations with my friends that I work with and guys that I have known on the boards for months and in the case of JP and Andrew-- years. For dinner that night, Rick has invited a couple friends to join myself, Lee, Chris, CHE and Hof. They are two fairly attractive ladies---in their early forties (a couple the whores said late 40's). One of the ladies was playing at our "4/8 Party table" and Rick apparently invited her to come with us. They stayed for about 10-15 minutes, took a shot of something and then, probably because they felt out of place with 5 guys in their mid to late twenties, said that they had to get back to the poker table. They seemed nice enough, but I think the situation was awkward to everyone except Rick who was still drunk (from this point on lets just assume that Rick is drunk). After the meal, we met up with Val, Ace, PA, Jek, Kelly, Z and JP for some 5/10 HORSE at the Ceasar's Poker room. Rick, Jim and Mikey Obviously, PokerMike went to party at a strip club (I'll let Rick tell this story if he wants to). At Ceasars, Chris is playing 6/12 and the rest of us play the HORSE game, which lasts 2.5 hours or so. I manage to win $250 at the table, even though I really only know how to play the H. Ace claims to take down around $500. Here we meet Thythe for the first time. He sits down at a 1/2 table to do some donk killing. Afterwards, we go to the Bellagio sportsbook to hang out everyone. We forget about Thythe because he was playing the 1/2 NL. JP gives him a call, so he knows that we didn't leave him because we didn't like him. He's the same great guy that many of you know from the boards and 2+2 (definitely not a 2+2 "zoofag" as Jim likes to say)--- hard to go wrong with a Bloomington, Minnesota native who loves the Twins. For those at Whorecon III who didn't make it to IV (lol, which I think is just Cha Ngo), he reminded Jek and me of Todd. The next day is Saturday and it's the big Whorecon day--day of the tournament and banquet. The BW has a great lunch at the In-and-Out Burger (nice to have a $5 meal again!) and then we head to the Gamblers Bookstore to kill some time before the banquet. After making the short walk to the Plaza, we are ready to play the banquet. HeroOfCanton,Mike007 and Hogua make their first appearance of the Whorecon. All are nice guys, but HeroOfCanton explains later that he is really drunk. That's got to explain the open limping on the button, don't you think Ace? Jim did a pretty good job explaining the tournament, so I won't go into too many details. I was short stacked pretty much the entire time. Ace got me to rebuy with his Q9s against my AKo. He raised preflop and I reraised. The flop looked to be ragged (nine high), I overbet all-in, got a call and lost my stack. Ace made $20, but proceeded to lose $300 in rebuys and add-ons. I got knocked out by JM when I went all in with pocket 2's. He turned over QQ and I was out in 17th place. A little disappointing, being the default champion, but it was a lot of fun to watch what followed. Andrew battled hard to beat some very good competition (JP, Thythe, Jim and PA). Andrew won around $2300, JP $1400, Thythe $900 and Jim $300. It was a very good tournament (even though I was out very early) and a great turnout, with 21 out of the 24 registered playing. Only negative was that I heard some complain about the quick pace of the tournament, but it probably had to be that way as it still managed to last over 3 hours. After the tournament and before the banquet, Thythe, myself, Jek, Lee, Chris, Hogua, and Rick headed downtown to get a look at the surroundings. We went into historic Binions to get some pictures. It was the first time I had ever been to the iconic downtown Vegas. I was most amazed at the difference of the type of people walking around downtown to the people I am used to seeing on the strip. Downtown it felt like we were walking around at a state fair (or maybe closer to your average casino you may go to across the country), whereas the strip exudes classiness and glitz-- quite striking. After visiting downtown, Hogua drove the seven of us in rental car to the Mirage for the banquet. I don't know how we did it, but we somehow managed to fit all seven of us in the car. Thanks to Thythe and Lee for their lack of mass, because we could have never squeezed in if it wasn't for them (being that the rest of us are winning the fight against anorexia). The car ride over was very fun, but I can't seem to remember anything from it. Perhaps I can get some help form the others. The banquet was absolutely fantastic (thanks Jek, private forum). I had some of the best beef, chicken and pork of my life and they just kept bringing more and more. The food at the banquet was worth coming to Vegas itself. Of course, Rick had to class the place up, by ingesting olive oil this time. This time it was in front of virtually everyone at Whorecon IV, giving even the latecomer whores (Hogua, Mike007, HeroOfCanton) a treat to the man, the myth, the legend that is BW's newest and craziest staff member, Rick. There was a reason that he subjected himself to this final prop bet-- he only had $20 remaining after a bad session at the tables on Friday afternoon and a poor showing at the tournament (he finished last in the first hour and choose not to rebuy or add-on). He said afterwards that it was the toughest prop bet he made (as far as the after-effects) and that he probably wouldn't do it again (even if he only did have $20 left). During the banquet we also got a chance to meet JM's girlfriend. She was really nice and seemed to be a very interesting person. Jim was really nice to me on this trip (we usually argue or get into some sort of verbal fight) and I genuinely had a great time hanging out with him at Whorecon IV. The only explanation for this that I can think of is that his girl is somehow making him be nicer. After the banquet, a lot of us went to the sportsbook at the Mirage to try to look like we were betting (for the free drinks--it had worked earlier). Apparently, they were closed because we didn't receive any service. BW crew, Hogua, Sir Arthur, JM, Thythe, and PA killed some time there anyway as we waited for the limo to arrive. I think it arrived late. It was very large, but to me didn't look anything like the picture. There were no LCD screens like advertised, which meant that hof couldn't put on the gay porn. Also, there the sunroof didn't open so JP couldn't yell "I'm a filthy whore" on the strip. Both of these were drawbacks. In addition, it was around 40 minutes before the limo driver found a liquor store that was open. In the meantime, we were subjected to awful music that nobody could agree to. Foreigner? I like Foreigner well enough, but what kind of human listens to Foreigner in a limo? Neeless to say, Ace and I managed to do a duet to "Urgent." At the liquor store, the limo driver managed to lock his keys in the limo….worst limo driver ever? Things loosened up a bit once the alcohol came on board, but I was still surprised with how relatively tame the ride was. Maybe the buzzkill of the music combined with the shitty limo driver put some in a somber mood. I believe we had the limo ride for 2 hours or so. Five minutes after the limo ride everyone seemed to scatter home (hof, JP, Ace, Z and Val went to play poker at the Rio, I believe), leaving only myself, Hogua, Chris, Rick, Lee MikeyObviously and Brent. I thought going into the limo ride that it was basically the start of our night, yet everyone seemed to scatter to either go to bed or to play poker. Even JimMorrison, who gave me shit for going to bed relatively early every night on my last Vegas strip, went to bed right after the ride (granted, it was to fuck). Anyway the 6 of us decided to carry on the flame. We walked through the Bellagio lobby with cases of beer, Rick handing individual bottles out to strangers. We then went to Rick and Lee's room to bullshit for awhile about sportsbook and casino whoring, and basically share warm fuzzies about each other and the site. After an hour or so, we all decided to go to play some early morning 4/8 down at the Bellagio room. They wouldn't let us open up a table for some reason. But after some persistence and talking to the poker room manager we got a game opened up. We were joined by somebody who some of us had played with earlier on in the trip- a complete donk, and in this case a drunk one. He was the type of guy who loved to think he was the greatest player at the table. He quit his 2/5 NL game, because he claimed it to be boring and said that we were more fun. However, I don't know how we knew this because we just met him. We got the same started and things escalated quickly. He was immediately run over by everyone at the table, including a very drunk MikeyObviously and a relatively sober Hogua. As donks are want to do, he was playing every hand and hemorrhaged $300-$500 over the course of a half hour or so. During this time, he treat us to many bizarre stories (weird, I cant remember all, on account of it being 5 AM and the beverages that were consumed), including the story about the essay he wrote about rigged online poker tournaments. According to our scholar, online poker sites fix MTT's and SNG's in the later stages of the tournament by making the short stacks lose their all-ins so they can get the tournament over with to save server space. Apparently, online ring games are perfectly fine (you can sleep soundly now, grinders). Anyway, it wasn't long before he was drained of his funds. After running out of the money that he had at the table, and explaining how bad we were (we told him we were all 4/8 pros, he claimed to be a 2/5NL pro), MikeyObviously proposed to play him heads up (I believe this is the part that I caught on video) for $500. After some back and forth and talking with his backer, donk wanted to play him heads up for no less than $2,000, to which Mikey immediately agreed. Surprised by this, he had to go back to the "backer" (probably his wife). By this time it was about 6 o'clock and it didn't seem like the much hyped up heads-up match was going to happen. I headed to bed very tired, hoping that I wouldn't throw up before I settled down. I left the rest of the whores to fend for themselves, but I don't think anything noteworthy happened after that. For all intensive purposes that was the end of whorecon for me. We woke up late the next day, checked out and then we were off on our way to cold, calm, Rapid City, SD. I had a great time over the four days in Las Vegas, but after that amount of time, I think it is good to be back. I look forward to the next trip (whether it be with a small group or another large one). It is amazing to me that a bunch of people from different backgrounds (including different whoring backgrounds) and different lifestyles can get along so relatively well and enjoy each others company even though beforehand we only met each other over the internet. I don't want to be corny, but trips like this make me appreciate my job even more, and make me realize the reason why I work as hard as I do at BW. I am so glad I got the chance at Whorecon IV to make new friends and see old ones.
