I have heard rumors in a couple places on the web that the Feds and State Agencies may be working on a way to require users of Ebay and/or owners of website hosting services to require Social Security numbers for individuals using these types of services.

If SSN's were required on Ebay, for instance, that would put an immediate end to multiple Id's. It would also enable the feds to track any and all sales transactions within private web stores, auctions, etc. My guess is, it would also mean millions of individual online sellers (those who aren't allready doing so) would have to go through the hastle of registering as a business within the state they reside, pay self-employed SSN taxes, etc., etc., etc. It would also mean the sellers from other countries would possibly have a selling edge on those of us in the U.S., unless they can figure out a way to make them pay use taxes on items they sell here.

Has anyone heard anything about that? If so, what is your opinion?
