Posted at March 15, 2006, 11:53 pm: I just got this email a few minutes ago. This has got to be the weirdest and most ridiculous PayPal scam I've seen yet. I cannot see how on earth this can possibly not be a scam of some kind. This person claims to have wrote me the other day, claims to have been a recent contact with PayPal through Ebay... No, they have never contacted me before. I've never heard of this individual and have no record whatsoever of any transactions with this person. This is just the craziest thing I've ever seen. And to add to the weirdness of it all, I noticed it was sent to about 50 different email addresses, all beginning with the same letter as mine. It's just gotta be a scam. I have never seen anything like it. Here's the whole message: Hello, I wrote you the following email the other day and was just following up to make sure it arrived. This is the last email I will send out, but needed to make sure everyone received it. Thanks and hopefully this will work for us! Good luck. Hi there, I am sending you this email as you are a recent contact of mine on eBay, through Paypal. Please do not delete this before reading it in full - it is not a scam and is not junk mail! - It actually works. Read the emails below. I am a genuine user of eBay and PAYPAL. (you can check my email address as it is my ebay user ID as well). You can also contact me if you wish, and I'll be happy to confirm I am the sender of this mail. If you have already done one of these, why not join this list & do another???!!! I am a regular person always looking for something neat like this to try and I feel sure that we can both benefit financially from the following plan. You, like me, might have doubts due to seeing something like this idea before, but not in connection with 71 million Paypal accounts. Paypal have confirmed this to be legal. The person who sent me the email has already started benefiting from the plan. All it involves is a one off initial payment of $5.00 USD and approximately 20 to 30 minutes of your time. It is really so easy to do - then you can just sit back and wait for those payments to go into your paypal account. INSTRUCTIONS The first thing you need to do is send a $5.00 USD payment from your Paypal account to the FIRST email address in the list below, along with a note saying "Here is your $5.00 Gift". Instructions on how to send a payment are under "SEND MONEY" at the Paypal site. It is very easy. Anyone you know with an email address can open a Paypal account if they don't already have one, so you can also send to your personal list of emails as well. The more, the better. ALL I WOULD LIKE TO DO NOW IS WISH YOU GOOD LUCK. IF YOU ARE STILL UNSURE OR EVEN IF YOU WOULD JUST LIKE TO KNOW HOW THIS WORKS PLEASE READ ON HERE'S HOW IT WORKS When you send out your email, your email address will initially be at No 5 on the list. THAT IS THE BEST POSITION TO BE IN FOR MAXIMUM EXPOSURE!!!!!!! The response rate for this program is much higher than any typical email marketing campaign for a number of reasons, which are explained later on. As long as you send out your emails to people whom are likely to be interested in this program, then on average you can expect a response of around 25%. But let's be extremely conservative and assume that the average response rate is 12.5%!
