I have been trying to sell a used Dish Network 721 receiver I obtained from an Ebay seller awhile ago.

On the last day of a 7-day auction, I received notification from eBay VeRO that my auction was cancelled for reason of copyright infringement and to consult Dish Network's "About Me" page for more information. I looked, and could not find the specific offense that I committed. The receiver I am selling was not broken, is not a fake, I did not use any text or logos from their site. I did notice they have a section on what kind of information should not be included in the auction (seems odd that they are even allowed to tell you what you can and cannot say about the item, but whatever). Although I didn't mention in my description anything they've specifically said they won't allow, I did provide additional information about the software version and a label left on the receiver by a previous owner. I know it was completely stupid and mindless of me to include such information since it probably IS only relevant to a hacker, but my greed to get top dollar for it told me, "as long as I didn't break any laws with it, I'm okay, and whatever the buyer does with it is not my business." Probably not true, but that was my thought process at the time.

Anyhow, was too much information the problem, and if I censored my auction, would that fix it? I emailed Dish Network to ask, and this was the response:

That reply made me I gain some confidence that if I censor information out that Dish thinks the buyer should not know, that I would "not come up on [their] radar". So I relisted it again.

This time, they shut it down after 1-day. I sent them a rather exasperated email that if they don't tell me specifically what I'm doing wrong, how am I supposed to know? Since I didn't break any rules in their guide!

The reply I got was:

So it seems the problem is they don't like that I was including a blue card with it, the same card that came with it when I got it? Odd... it says in their guide that they won't activate blue cards and not to sell them, but not that you can't include it with a receiver if it came with that receiver. What if this were NOS, it would have come with the blue card in the box???

Well, if the blue card is my problem, then the whole thing was a misunderstanding because I didn't know you can't include a blue card with the receiver if it came with it. If they would have told me that in the first place, it would have prevented the 2nd VeRO cancellation!

Ok, I know it was a long story, but now I have 2-strikes against me on Ebay. Obviously a 3rd suspends my account. Is there any way I can get these strikes cleared? Is there a statute of limitations where the strikes expire?

After reading this forum about people getting nasty letters that they're getting sued, should I be worried that one day I'll get a registered letter informing me that Dish is suing me?Shawn
