Regular ocean freight companues charge too much but consolidators are reasonable. If you use a regular freight consolidator, try to find one who SPECIALIZES in ocean freight.
Most freight consolidators offer ocean and air, but they may be
weak or not competitive in one area. You may want to try a
consolidator based in the UK or Mexico. When I ship to Germany,
I use a German consolidator and my airfreight goes on Lufthansa.
When I ship to Switzerland, I use a Swiss consolidator who gets
deals on SwissAir.

A friend ships cars on a regular basis to and from Long Beach and
New Zealand. Going to Kiwiland, he gets a great price as the
fruit containers going from NZ to LA are going back empty.
