Here is an email I sent to a techy friend, which pretty much sums the problem up I think that it is mainly a problem with the video card's driver. The computer would restart itself for no apparent reason, especially if a quicktime video was played, or anything with an animation in it. So, I went to System Properties---> Advanced---> Startup and Recovery, and turned off the option for an automatic restart upon system failure, so that I could see the individual errors I received, if memory serves, several errors(0x000000c4, 0x000000c5, 0x0000000a, and 0x000000ab, and one of them had an "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL if I remember correctly, though I could be wrong). Most of them pointed to a video card driver error, and this was backed up by the fact that the computer would crash when I tried to update the driver. A friend, without my permission, uninstalled the video card, and replaced the original(Ati Radeon 9800) with a different video card(Geforce 6600) we had on hand, though the problem persists, so it is possible he did not properly delete the driver, or that it screwed up the system pool(as the 0x000000c5 error seems to reference) Well, I emailed this to a techy that is a friend, and this is the response I was sent Try dumping the video driver by going back to the Standard VGA driver. Then take the original CD that came with the video card and reinstall. I does sound like that’s the most likely cause. <---My question is, does he want me to replace the ati and do this?? My question is, uhhhhhhh, as I am not a genius with computers that most of y'all are, only okay with it, is there any way to do this that doesn't involve reformatting my computer?
