To the point, my knees buckle in/wobble when I squat. This is even when doing just a bodyweight squat with a broomstick. I am strong enough to do bodyweight single-leg squats, heavy lunges/walking lunges and the like...yet my knees buckle on a squat.

My stance is correct...and I have experimented with several different stances (extra wide, narrow, toes pointed extra out, pointed straight ahead). I haven't tried squatting with a medicine ball between my knees, though I'm thinking that may be my next approach.

Anyhoo...any idea what causes this weakness? Something tells me it's hip flexors, but I am not 100% sure. Sorry if this has been asked a bajillion times here...I admittedly suck at search (I must use the wrong terms).

Ideas?

Edit: Until the last few weeks, I would just go ahead and squat w/ barbell/weight and just let the knees wobble. It never did has gotten better like I thought it would if I just "toughed it out" . Citing how dangerous that could be for the knees, I backed off.
