I quote " Cholesterol participates in many bodily functions... synthesizing vitamin D, adrenal gland hormones, and the sex hormones estrogen, androgen and progesterone... Powerful predictors of increased risk for coronary artery disease include high levels of serum cholesterol and the cholesterol-rich LDL molecule... In "susceptible" individuals, a dietary cholesterol excess eventually produces atherosclerosis (plaque)... reducing saturated fatty acid and cholesterol intake generally lowers serum cholesterol, although for most people the effect remains modest... Increasing dietary intake of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids lowers blood cholesterol,particularly LDL cholesterol... Patients with existing heart disease improve coronary blood flow within 6 months by aggressively using drug and diet therapy that lower total blood cholesterol and LDL cholesterol. For example, statin can reduce cholesterol by up to 60mg dl with the drug Lipitor significantly slowing disease progression" Now I have read around the forum stating that eggs or dietary cholesterol do not produce atherosclerosis, but the book writes an excess will eventually produce plaque. And how wierd is it that a textbook says that by using LIPITOR, it will decrease cholesterol in patients?
