Posted at October 6, 2006, 6:23 am: I found this weeks article about Kmak333 interesting http://auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y06/m10/i06/s03 But not because his auctions were still live (it just looks like a computer glitch), but because he was suspended for VERO. I looked over this guy's feedback, and I couldn't find a single instance where anyone mentioned that a cd or tape was bootleg. It looked as if he sold legit used and new items. Usually when someone sells bootlegs, their fb is peppered with "nice cd, but a copy" type of comments. However, what I did find was dozens of instances where the seller simply failed to send out a product at all - perhaps 90% of the negs I saw were for this reason alone. Yet, that wasn't enough to get this guy booted. If you look at the auctions themselves - thousands of .99 auctions with all the profits shoved into shipping - we see thousands of fee avoidance instances over just the last 30 days. He charges from $4 to $6 to ship single cd's and tapes (all under a pound) - though it only costs between .87 (a single cd in a bubble envelope - first class) and $1.50 (media mail for under 1lb). Someone ordereing 20 of his items (a common occurance), might pay $5-10 for the cd's, but will pay $35-60 in shipping - which he will do Media Mail for under $5. Obviously, since he sells most of his CD's and tapes for sometimes less than it costs to list them, he's making 99% of his profit from shipping. So he barely pays ebay fees - maybe 10% of what honest seller who play by Ebay's rules pay. Yet, that didn't get him booted long ago. What got him booted was a Vero violation - the first according to him - after being on ebay for 10 years. Chances are, the Vero isn't even a legitiamte claim (so few are these days). It makes you wonder about Ebay's priorities. It also makes me wonder if Ebay's reaction to the Vero claim was really a back-door way to boot him for fee avoidance... Just an observation. I always charge $4-5 for S&H on CD's the shipping is relatively lo... I wouldn't mind paying $4 for shipping and handling of a cd.
