I bought a box of silver flatware at a sale yesterday cheap. how do I tell if it is silver or silver plate? is there an online referance for Wm Rogers patterns? if it is marked 1886 is that a pattern date? How many Wm Rogers's companies were there? I have some that have Onidea behind the Wm Rogers and some that are marked son. one set has Par Plate I assume that they are silver plated but how do I tell about the others? Is GORAHM a better maker there is also an anchor and FRED HARVEY (HARVEY HOUSE)(( SANTA FE)) on them I'm thinking they will be worth more just because of the railroad tie. I wasn't planning on keeping them but after reading the stickys I guess they could be a cheap insurance pollicy. sell a little recover my money and keep the rest. If I do sell it is it better to pollish first or sell it as it is? One set has the bowls of the spoons embossed and they would look nicer cleaned but I don't want to hurt the value any. Thanks Ernie
