Hi Lucy,

I grew up in the panhandle of Texas (Muleshoe, Texas). My Mom and Dad grew up in Mountain View, Arkansas. Chocolate Gravy was a staple that my Mother had for many breakfast meals in Arkansas and then in Texas. Mom passed the tradition of Chocolate Gravy and biscuits on to her 8 children and we have in turn passed it on to our children. It is a special treat for the kids and grandkids when they come for a visit.

CHOCOLATE GRAVY

1 cup sugar
1/3 cup cocoa
2 1/4 cup milk or water (your choice or use half milk and half water)
2/3 cup flour
1 tsp vanilla
dash salt
1/4 cup oleo

Put dry ingredients in sauce pan and mix: Add milk or water and stir over medium heat until mixture becomes thick. Add vanilla and oleo and stir. If gravy is too thick, add a little more liquid.

Serve over a hot homemade biscuit that is split open and place a dab of butter on 'em.

PS--If you like it a little sweeter, just add more sugar
