While I also hate "sniping" and have lost items to such a thing, by the same token, I agree with the writer who said just put in the maximum amount you would pay for the piece. If I get outbid, whether the regular way or by "sniping", I know I wouldn't have gone up over that anyway and at least maybe the seller got a fair price instead of a sniper coming in at the last minute and just going over my last bid a little bit.
