To sellers posting classified ads or any merchants selling high dollar items. I have a classified ad currently posted selling a high dollar item (several thousand dollars). In the first week of the ad being run I have been contacted by two "potential" buyers who claim to be from Great Britain who want to buy my item. They want to send a cashiers check for several thousand dollars OVER the sale amount - tempting, right? DON'T FALL FOR THIS. I spoke with the FBI, and was told that this scam is based on the seller depositing this "cashier's check" in their bank and forwarding the balance to a supposed shipper who is supposed to arrange the whole shipment of the item. The cashier's check is CONTERFEIT and it takes about a month for banks to identify it. The seller becomes LIABLE for the entire amount of the cashier's check. If you have received any of these emails, SAVE THEM and, please file a complaint with the IFCC (Internet Fraud Complaint Center) http://www.ifccfbi.gov/. The more information the IFCC gets, the more they can zero in on the perpetrators, but you need to REPORT them. The key is the scammer's email address. [/b]
