So maybe someone around here likes to discuss cameras....

The most bang for the buck in vintage cameras is with folding 120 rollfilm cameras, usually "6x9". During the '50s a "modern variation" appeared, usually 6x6, with rangefinder, but these go for much more, and aren't the topic here.

A camera with a good lens, capable of taking high quality medium format images, can be bought on Ebay for under $20.

Look for a camera with a shutter with a range of settings, down to at least 1/200 of a second. Given the price, it makes no sense to get one with a cheap shutter. Compur shutters have the best reputation, more because no low end shutter was branded Compur, but others can be just fine. Low end shutters are detected by their paucity of choices in speed.

Make sure you get "120", not "620". Most Kodak cameras in this style were 620.

The downside of this style of camera is that you have to set the distance on the lens to focus. There is no visual focusing aid. For many, this is in fact a fatal flaw. It is, for sure, a negative.

One thing you can do to mitigate the problem is to use fast film and stop down to about f11, preferably f16. This leaves a lot of room for error. Fuji sells 800 speed film in 120. By the "sunny 16 rule", this can be shot at 1/800 or so in bright sun at f16, which gives you plenty of choices in circumstances with less than full sun.
