Posted at July 15, 2006, 7:58 am: vintage clothing is soooo hot right now. There was a spoof about retro clothing yesterday morning on the today show or one of those morning programs. Anyway, I had a few ladies bring some dresses into my store over the past few weeks, I have gone up on my prices in the store too and just about everyone of those dresses are gone...handbags too. You can now bring the prices of your vintage clothing and accessories up a bit, the demand for them is greater than it was this time last year, even here in Charleston, South Carolina people are paying high dollar for dresses and gloves. I sold a gorgeous 1950's swing halter dress a few days ago and did not have a price tag on it (it had just come in) and when I told the girl that I wanted $35.00 for it she could not believe how cheap that was. The word I am getting from the customers is that the big department stores are reproducing the fashions of the 60's & 70's and charging a fortune for them. The selling point as to why people want to buy authentic opposed to what is a reproduction is because the quality of the garment is put together so much better. Even the teen-age girls that come to the store acknowledge that themselves when checking out my inventory. Aside from that, anyone can purchase a reproduction, finding the real thing more than once or seeing someone else with the same thing you got is very rare. so, don't pass up those vintage clothes when you go to yard sales.LisaMoo http://myspace.com/charlestonculturevulture Vintage clothing, jewelry, hats, handbags, gloves and home decor from the 70's on back.
