Posted at November 23, 2005, 6:29 pm: I was bidding on some software a few days ago and I did not win the auction, although I knew the seller had multiples of the item, I inquired with him about offering a second chance offer and he did not know what it was. I sent him the instructions on how to do it. He was leaving money on the table. If you sell on ebay, don't overlook what is now become an auction basic. It will prove to be more profitable to you in the long run. You ask, what is it that I should not forget?.. it is called the "second chance offer" . If you sell your goods in the traditional auction format, I.E. starting the auction price of a popular item that you sell at a low or reasonable price, and then letting the bidders drive the price as high as the market allows, you will want to use the second chance offer if you have mutiples of that item. Use the "Second Chance Offer" to offer the next highest bidder a chance to get the item for the price they bid at before getting outbid. What are the advantages of using the second chance offer? 1. You get to sell your item again without incurring any ebay listing fees. You only pay the ebay final value fees on that sale. 2. Save time. 3. Make high profits on a single auction. 4. Get another customer. "Never underestimate the value of a customer" Another Story... To use the second chance offer you do this... Once the auction ends with a high bidder, you simply select "My eBay", then to your left in the side menu you will see "All Selling", click on the "All Selling" link, in in the middle of the screen will display all the items you currently have up for auction under the "Items I'm Selling" area, below that will be the "Items I've Sold" area, here the item you just sold will be displayed, click on that item and inside the details of the item will be a link that says, "Send Second Chance Offer", click on this and you will be able to select the duration then, send a second chance offer to the next highest bidder. Ebay's system will inturn send an email to the next highest bidder stating something like you have additional items to sell, or you could not complete the original transaction. This will place another instance of this item in your "Items I'm Selling" area, for the term you specified. If the bidder takes you up on the offer, it will be handled just like a "Buy it Now" item That is all there is to it... Don't miss out on this often overlooked feature. Hope this is good info for new auction sellers.
