1. GoodFellas - Simply one of the best gangster films ever made (even outshining "The Godfather", IMO), brilliantly brought to the screen by Martin Scorsese. Robbed of all the Oscars it was nominated for, at least Joe Pesci walked away with the deserving gold

2. Wild at Heart - David Lynch's nightmarish road film masterpiece, that proved "Blue Velvet" wasn't a one-shot deal. Great performances across the board, notably Willem Dafoe and Diane Ladd.

3. State of Grace - An underappreciated and highly underrated urban gangster gem, about the Irish mob in Hell's Kitchen, NYC. Gary Oldman and Ed Harris turn in triumphant performances that I thought were two of the best of the year and should have been Oscar-considered.

4. Q&A - Sidney Lumet's last "great" film, about corruption and racism within the NYC police department. Solid performance by Nick Nolte (which ranks as one of the best of his career) as the corrupt and racist police detective in which the movie is based around.

5. Total Recall - Paul Verhoeven's follow-up to his sci-fi work of art, "Robocop". Great action and great storyline (adapted from a Phil Dick story), "Recall" is a thrill-ride and ranks high as great science-fiction.

6. Quick Change - Hilalrious film about a NYC bank robbery, in which the robbers can't escape from New York. Bill Murray and Randy Quaid are in top comedic form here as well as a great turn from Jason Robards as the detective on their trail. Another underapprecited and underrated gem

7. Miller's Crossing - The Coen Brothers' take on the gangster film. Nuff said.

8. Misery - One of the best Stephen King adaptations to film. A remarkable suspense thriller. Superb direction from Rob Reiner as well as top-notch performances make this one of the best in its genre. Hitchcock would've been proud (and Brian De Palma had nothing to do with it, wink wink).

9. Henry & June - The beautifully photographed story of Henry Miller and his wife June and their lusty encounters with french diarist Annais Nin. Uma Thurman proves herself a solid actress in this film.

10. Dick Tracy - Visually stunning adaptation of the famous comic strip by Chester Gould. Warren Beatty's best turn as director, and a cinematic work of art
