I've drawn for most of my life, but it wasn't until March 5 of this year that I began to study seriously. I'm glad I found this site. Now I'll be forced to study even harder.
I'll start off with some somewhat old stuff from between April and May. I did this for fun and practice drawing people from tv. The stuff on the left I drew while watching tv and on the right I drew from memory. On the right is Rebecca Donaldson, Danny Tanner and Tony Robins. In the middle is Jerry "The King" Lawler, Triple H and Screech. On the right is Quentin Tarantino, A.C. Slater, Michael Jackson and Cousin Larry.
These next pictures are from June and July and they are to show what and how I've been studying. The two main exercises I use to study bones are contour drawing and modeled drawing which I took from "The Natural Way to Draw". I also use words, symbols, perspective, and proportion . In the middle I realized I could simplify spinning the mandible around if I imagined it attached to a cylinder, and congratulated myself, on the bottom I tried the same thing with the skull. The more realistic drawings I did because I felt I was getting to loose in my drawing. Contour and modeling exercises help you understand form but they screw up your motor memory
Here I was mostly seeing how prismacolor colored pencils looked. The two women are from pictures in "The Man Who Shot Garbo" I was mostly interested in the noses. I did the guitar headstock from life and wasn't satisfied with the grainyness of the the black colored pencil. From 8/5 and 8/7.
I did this yesterday with a BIC ultra round stic grip and colored pencils. Continuing to study the structure of the skull.
