I'm currently looking into Kubrick and his last film for my dissertation, and wanted to get peoples opinions...

Is it his greatest work as he believed? Or did the critics get it right?

Also, was the lack of praise for this film in anyway controlled by the expectations and rumours that were increasing around the time of its release?

I believe this to be his best work. Taking what he'd learnt and developed through all his earlier work and culminating it into his finest piece, which ultimately became his last. Despite having the rights to the book for approx. 30 years, the eventual outcome of this film is the reason I believe he didn't get round to completing it at an earlier date in his career.

Any thoughts on this would be real appreciated!
