Posted at January 25, 2017, 1:26 pm: I believe I've mentioned it on MoFo in the past, but Penny Arcade has once again kicked off their Child's Play charity drive and I thought I'd mention it. Child's Play was started as a charity by PA and fueled by its gaming community as a means for supplying sick children with something they crave to occupy their time while they're in the hospital. In all fairness, the charity was originally created as not only a means to give to sick children, but to refute the idea that all of us gamers are socially isolated, uncaring and unsympathetic people who spend our free time playing 'killing simulators' - which clearly isn't the case. There are several ways to donate. You can purchase a video game or game related product via Amazon and have it sent to the hospital of your choice or you can simply donate money. Penny Arcade takes absolutely no cut from any of the proceeds, so no need to worry that your money isn't going where it should. Child's Play has raised over $500,000 in games or financial donations for children hospitals since it was created and can hopefully top that this year. And while Child's Play was created by and is run by gamers, you don't have to be a geek to donate a game to brighten up a kids day. However, this post isn't intended to beg for people to donate. I'm just trying to expand its horizons past that of the gamer community (though I know there are a handful of us here as well). Anyways, give it a thought if it interests you. It isn't world wide yet and isn't available at all Children Hospitals in the US, but it is expanding every year.
