About a half-second after reading this, it occurred to me that it wouldn't be especially difficult to write a script which rolls through all the reputation in the old system (almost 20,000 ratings) and adds them to the new system. But instead of each hit being worth whatever it was before, it'll just be worth +1 or -1, depending on whether or not it was positive or negative under the old system
What does everyone think about this? It takes care of some of the downsides to having a new system, but of course a lot of that rep is for things like birthdays and the like, and I'm trying to discourage the rep system being used to simply dole points out to posters you like, regardless of how insightful or substantive a given post is
So what do you guys think?
