So back in august i got my self a nice pack or XL's by d'darrio in the states when i went to visit family they were 20 bucks cdn! So yeah today after finishing a nice chunk of my hw i think to myself i wana play my bass and a nice new sound to it wouldn’t hurt.. So i decided to restring. SO i et up my desk in my room with pillows etc to protect the bass and i take off all my old strings and put em in my drawer with all my other bass things and i bust open the pack of new strings.... so i take out the B and put it through the bridge and when i get to laying it into the NUT it wouldn’t fit... and i was like eerrmk... so i pushed it a bit and it fit in but very very snuggly(is that a real word?) and i wtf'd got my dad to look at the two strings and he’s like yeah this ones definitely bigger.....so i need to know did i waste 20 bucks on strings from the U S of A or can i still use this set of strings without damaging my bass? the worst thing is i told the guy at the strings counter which bass i had and i pointed it out on the wall...and that's the pack he gave me -_- so yes what do i do?

Then your string should fit and your problem is solved.

Ok, then just buy a lighter gauge string if you are that worried.
