So I'm in the market for a new effect: some kind of distortion or overdrive pedal. But it seems as if every time I buy a pedal I hate it and end up selling it. I've gone through quite a few.

I've developed a taste for a mean sound, and I don't know how to get it. I'm assuming some sort of overdrive... though I generally hate distorted/overdriven bass. I don't like how the low end drops out, and all you're left with is is crappy fuzzy white-noise-ish sound. I hate it, hate it, hate it.

I want something that sounds big and mean, where my low end isn't lost. I'm looking for more of a growl than I am distortion or overdrive. No fuzz. No stupid distortion. Big, mean, growly, bassy, thick, and angry.

Any opinions?
