Although many of my friends lament the show, yet I can't help but watch it. Unlike many of the other variants (Australian idol, New Zealand idol etc), the American version produces some absolutely stunning vocalists.
Many of the females get in based on looks, and above-average looks. Many of the male pop-rock finalists over the seasons are quite terrible in my opinion, and although the show has produced 1 or 2 good crooners, many fail to show adaptability. However in amongst all crap, each season seems to produce 1 or 2 stunners. Paris Bennett is my personal favourite from this last season, she wowed me from her first audition. Meanwhile Mandisa was simply unstoppable when on top of her game.
Many of the idols first attempts at records are really over-produced IMO, Fantasia Barrino from Season 3 sounds like hogwash on her debut due to overprodution and gloss. Even her cover of Summertime sounds like trash compared with her live performance on the show.
So anybody else got some favourites from the show? Bought any of the idol contestants albums?
