First off, I want this to be a serious thread; I'm actually trying to get some real info from it. As some of you know, I'm a college student very interested in languages. As of now, I can speak English (native) and I am confident (but not quite fluent) in Spanish and basic Russian. My question to you guys is how can I gain more confidence in the above languages. Obviously, I don't get much of a chance to use my secondary languages in Georgia, especially the Russian. What are some ways you guys (i.e. Jelle -- I pretty sure you speak at least three languages well, no?) keep in practice if you don't have constant opportunities to use them? Also, I'm interested in picking up a few more languages in my own time. Some I'm looking at are German, Serbian, and possibly Arabic. Another question I have is the following: What ways do you know of (besides taking university courses; I'm full for the next few semesters) that are effective ways to learn the languages on your own. I bought a teach yourself book on Serbian from Barnes and Noble, but it has no real interactive sections with audio or anything. Are there any brands of books or computer programs that you have found especially useful in your studies? Keep in mind, though, I am a full-time student, and I can't really afford expensive tutors or programs at the moment. I'm sorry about any flaws in my goals/desires in the field, but I thought it couldn't hurt to ask.
Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me.
