It's a confusing, multi-faceted song - let's examine the beginning.
"Police think they can see me lean I'm tint so it ain't easy to be seen When you see me ride by they can see the glean And my shine on the deck and the TV screen Ride with a new chick, she like hold up Next to the playstation controller is a full clip and my pistola"
"But we packin somethin that we have and um will have a nigga locked up in the maximum"
we see here that Cham clearly is ridin' dirty; he explicitly states that he is in fact in possession of illegal objects and in the first few lines, shows that the police have reasonable suspicion that he is in fact ridin' dirty and are obliged to stop him. We also see in later verses that Krayzie Bone admits to ridin' dirty as well; however, is he in the same vehicle as Cham? I assume not, because both of them claim to be driving. We'll leave him out of the picture for now.
However, as the song proceeds:
"A nigga upset for sure cause they think they know that they catchin me with plenty of the drink and dro So they get behind me tryin to check my tags look at my rearview and they smilin Thinkin they'll catch me on the wrong well keep tryin Cause they denyin is racial profiling Houston, Texas you can check my tags Pull me over try to check my slab Glove compartment gotta get my cash Cause the crooked cops try to come up fast And been a baller that I am I talk to them giving a damn bout not feeling my attitude When they realize I ain't even ridin dirty bet you'll be leavin with an even madder mood"
so after all this, was Cham just playing a role in the first verse? Was he, in fact, not ridin' dirty, and is this whole song just a comment on the corrupt and racist state of police officers and the threat they pose to young black men who are innocent of a crime? Or was Cham really ridin' dirty, with the cops just as crooked? What message is really being brought to the table here? Discuss.
